History of the Temple :

One day in Kailasa Parvatha Lord Shiva & Devi Parvathi were in Natya Sabha. All the three women Menaka, Rambha, Uravashi started to dance in front of Lord Shiva & Parvathi. At that time Brahmarushi called Brunghi Maharushi entered the Natya Sabha & saw three Women were performing dance; so Brunghi also started dancing because he was also very good dancer. After performing Brunghi’s dance Lord Shiva appreciated Brunghi’s dance. So Brunghi saluted Lord Shiva by his one right hand saying bhow (bhow means only Shiva. Shambhow means parvathi & parameshvara). So Devi Parvathi asking with Lord Shiva My Lord, Brunghi was saluting by one hand to you which means he had insulted me in front of all gathering here so I am very unhappy about his misbehavior. So Lord Shiva tells Devi Parvathi, you don’t become angry because Brunghi is a Bramharushi & he is following strictly Brahma Thatwa & my devotee: so he called me bhow & saluted me. In spite of listening to the words of Lord Shiva, Devi Parvathi became angry & cursed Brunghi to become a human skeleton. So immediately his body started becoming skeleton & falling down to earth, that time Lord Shiva gave him his Thrishula to support Brunghi’s Skeleton should not fall down to earth. So Devi Parvathi became so angry & she left Kailasaparvatha & went to Kushmanda Giri (now called as Nandi hills). Some days elapsed but Devi Parvathi did not come back to Kailasa. So Lord Shiva called Nandi & told to bring Devi Parvathi back to Kailasa. Immediately Nandi went to bring Devi Parvathi to Kailasa. When he was going, he got some fear in his mind because Devi Parvathi would become angry & she might curse me also. That times what could I do? So he got some idea in his mind; & disguised in the form of Lord Shiva to meet Devi Parvathi. Devi Parvathi was under sorrowful feeling because no one came to Kushmanda Giri to take her back to Kailasa, that time Nandi came with mask of Lord Shiva.

Devi Parvathi did not know Nandi had come in the form of Lord Shiva so urgently she hugged the Nandi very happily that time Nandi changes his mask of Lord Shiva to Nandi immediately praying Devi Parvathi not to punish him anything; because Nandi was about to take Devi Parvathi to Kailasaparvatha. Then he sat down & started praying Lord Shiva, here Lord Shiva thinking about Devi Parvathi & Nandi. Both Nandi and Devi Parvathi did not come back to Kailasa so Lord Shiva himself went to Kushmanda Giri, and saw both Devi Parvathi & Nandi were under sorrowful feeling. So Lord Shiva convinced Devi Parvathi not to become a angry & sorrow because you made mistake urgently and emotionally, now you become cool down to make the situation clear. So Devi Parvathi become happy & took back the curse against Brunghi and blessed Brunghi back to attain his normal body. Then Brunghi became normal Brahma Rushi and happy then Lord Shiva wakeup Nandi he said Nandi you don’t have any mistake you don’t worry I will bless you, you stay here only, those devotees coming to you with any problems you can bless them & solve their problems. There is sacred place Lord Shiva, Devi Parvathi, Brunghi, Nandi that place become Bhoganadishwara & Yoganadishwara. Here in Bhoganandishwara temple Lord Shiva sat with Devi Parvathi she sat on the left thigh of Lord Shiva. Then in front of Devi Parvathi temple there is Nandi.

In between hills, there is a huge Nandi called "KANIVE BASAVESWARA". This idol is growing up even today. The temple is situated in Sulthanpet, Nandi Grama, Chickballapura thaluka & district, from Bangalore 60/65 Kms, 10 Kms from Chikkaballapur.

   Address (As said on TV):
Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple,
Tirumale Village,
Magadi Taluk,
Ramanagara District,
Karnataka State, INDIA

Temple on Google Maps:

History of this Temple:
Falls
This ancient temple of Shri Lord Ranganatha Swamy is located in Magadi which is around 50km from Bangalore. The temple was built during the period of King Cholas and further developed by the kings of Vijayanagara Empire.Gopuram of the temple is in Dravidian style while inside the idol is in standing posture which is Vijayanagara Empire style.

Lord Ranganatha is in standing posture with 3 arms holding shanka, chakra, gada and the other one in abhaya hasta (Asdsuring hand). Usually the idol of Lord Ranganatha would be in reclining position. But here it is in standing posture. The priest said, originally it is the idol of Lord Venkateshwara and the elevated place were the temple is located  called Tirumale.

Sage Mandavya used to penance here. This temple is also called as 'Paschima Tirupati', an alternate place to Tirupati. During the period of Tippu Sultan, mughals started destroying many hindu temples. To save this temple, they called Venkateshwara as Ranganatha, as Tippu Sultan was faithful to his god Ranganatha Swamy at Srirangapattana. One more interesting idol inside is Beleyo Ranga(Growing Ranga) which is a small idol of Ranganatha in reclining position.
